Mark Lawrenson praises Liverpool's recruitment under Jurgen Klopp
Former Red Mark Lawrenson has praised Jurgen Klopp's recruitment during his time at Liverpool.
The German arrived at the club back in 2015 and has not looked back since. Klopp has won the Champions League, Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League title and League Cup with the Reds.
Prior to Klopp's arrival, Liverpool had not won a trophy since 2012 (League Cup). So, changes needed to be made in relation to player recruitment when the 54-year-old arrived at Anfield.
Klopp and his team have signed some top quality players over the years, which Lawrenson recently touched on.
He told Off The Ball the following: “The obvious reason is the money isn’t it in terms of the country that backs Manchester City and the fact that Liverpool, in terms of recruitment have just got it so much better.
"They’re shopping in completely different places than City, but they’ve signed some outstanding players and turned them into world-class players.
"I just think there’s something about Liverpool, the way they play, the manager and their history."
Anfield Watch Verdict
We aren't here to compare Liverpool and Manchester City.
All we will say is that the Reds possess a number of world-class players (Alisson, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz) without having spent ridiculous amounts of money, which Lawrenson did point out.
With that being the case, there has never been a better time to be a Liverpool supporter during the Premier League era.
Hopefully Klopp and his team can continue to build on what they have already achieved.
But, we are realistic that success doesn't last forever. The reality is, Liverpool are likely to go through a rough spell again.
