Manchester United have suffered two more injury concerns ahead of the clash with Liverpool, as both Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire had to be substituted during Tuesday night's defeat to Bayern Munich.

United crashed out of the Champions League bottom of Group A after a 1-0 loss in Germany.

The Red Devils went into the game needing to win and hope other results went their way, but a Kingsley Coman goal in the second half ended any chance of progression to the knockouts and piled more pressure on manager Erik ten Hag.

Embarrassingly, United have now conceded the most goals of any English team in the Champions League group stage ever, with 15 in six games.

Adding to their suffering, defensive duo Shaw and Maguire left the pitch with fresh injury concerns, adding to their mounting fitness issues.

Maguire was replaced by Jonny Evans after 40 minutes with an apparent groin problem, while Shaw picked up a hamstring issues just before half-time and did not return for the second 45.

The pair join a long injury list at United with Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Amad Diallo and Mason Mount all also currently absent. None expected to be fit to face Liverpool on Sunday.

Meanwhile, forwards Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were left out of the midweek defeat due to illness, with their availability for the weekend as yet unclear.

On top of that, club captain Bruno Fernandes is suspended for the game against Liverpool.

The impressive list of absentees means United are likely to have to field a makeshift lineup when they travel to Anfield.

In addition to their squad issues, United's recent form – one win in their last five – makes league leaders Liverpool overwhelming favourites to win on Sunday evening – with memories of last season's 7-0 still fresh on fans' minds.

However, Jurgen Klopp has his own selection issues ahead of the weekend and nothing will be taken for granted in one of the most hotly anticipated games of the campaign.

Joel Matip's ACL injury has ruled him out for the season, while Andy Robertson isn't expected to return until 2024. Alexis Mac Allister too will reportedly need two more weeks to recover from the knock he suffered in the win over Sheffield United and Diogo Jota is still some way away from a return to fitness.
