Manchester United 4-3 Liverpool: Player Ratings

Liverpool's dreams of a farewell quadruple for Jurgen Klopp are over as they concede a 120th-minute winner to be beaten 4-3 by Manchester United in the FA Cup.

Scott McTominay was the provider of the opening goal of the game, pouncing on Alejandro Garnacho's parried effort to poke home and give the Red Devils the lead.

However, the game would flip on its head right at the end of the half, with Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah striking in the space of three minutes to give the Reds the lead at the interval.

Liverpool would dominate the ball for much of the second half – but after failing to make use of their chances, they would be punished late on as Antony fired in a speculative effort on the spin.

The Reds retook the lead in extra time through Harvey Elliott’s deflected effort – but even that wouldn’t be enough to book their place in the semis, with Marcus Rashford tucking home with eight minutes to spare.

And from their own corner, Liverpool would be caught on the counter at the death as Amad Diallo tucked past Kelleher to book United's place at Wembley.

Here are the player ratings from the contest.

Caoimhin Kelleher (GK): 6

Unlucky for the first goal, doing well to deny Garnacho from close range, only to see the parried effort fall onto the goal-line for McTominay to poke home. Came to the rescue later in the half against the same man, produced a vital block to deny the Scotsman a second. Nothing he could do about the equaliser, but didn't get down quick enough for either Rashford and Diallo's shots, which proved costly for the Reds.

Joe Gomez (RB): 6

Really struggled down the right-hand side as United started strong, with a lot of their early threat coming through that channel. Began to calm down as the game continued and put in a brilliant challenge on Bruno Fernandes in the build-up to Liverpool's second. Subbed.

Jarell Quansah (CB): 8

Slightly caught out for the opener as Garnacho found space in behind - but made up for it and then some for the equaliser, steaming from the centre-circle into the box to act as the architect for Mac Allister's goal. Strong in the air and was in the right spot to clear when United searched for a late winner.

Virgil van Dijk (CB): 6

Remained assured even when under the cosh, but did leave open space in the box on a few occasions. Did well to deal with a few difficult Garnacho crosses in the second half.

Andy Robertson (LB): 6

Massive block to deny Garnacho as Man United piled on the pressure in the early stages. Missed a big chance to equalise, skying his effort from inside the box after catching United on the counter. However, he was a major presence going forward for the rest of the contest, linking up with Diaz effectively. Subbed.

Wataru Endo (DM): 5

One of the many who found things difficult during the opening stages, especially against Kobbie Mainoo. Very unlucky to have an equalising goal ruled out for a marginal offside against the provider Salah. Should have done better to block Antony’s effort that forced extra time.

Dominik Szoboszlai (CM): 7

Main driving force from midfield into attack, leading a couple of threatening counter-attacks as Liverpool sought an equaliser. Tested Onana a few times as he showed off his shooting range. Subbed.

Alexis Mac Allister (CM): 6

Was uncharacteristically rash on a couple of occasions during the early stages, completely misjudging the bounce of the ball which led to a United attack. Later robbed in possession to spark another dangerous move for the hosts, which could have ended worse had Rasmus Hojlund not fluffed his shot. Far from his best half - yet a shade before the break, he scored the vital goal that levelled the game for the Reds. Much improved after the break, and flashed a header wide in extra time.

Mohamed Salah (RW): 7

Saw an incredible volleyed effort go inches past the post after latching onto a Darwin Nunez cross. Later fed a fantastic ball through to Andy Robertson from the centre of the park, and would have had an assist if he wasn't a knee offside. Netted the opener as Liverpool turned the game on its head. Subbed.

Darwin Nunez (ST): 6

Was largely marked out of the game for the first quarter but burst into the contest at the end of the first 45 – where he was involved in both Liverpool goals. He first teed up Mac Allister to equalise before forcing the save from Onana, the rebound of which fell kindly to Salah for the second. More involved as a live wire after the break, getting himself in behind on a couple of occasions and threatening the United goal. However, gave the ball away cheaply in extra time, which was punished as Rashford equalised.

Luis Diaz (LW): 6

An abundant source of energy as per usual, often finding space on the left-hand side. Probably Liverpool's most electric attacker, a real pain to deal with for Diogo Dalot. However, faded in impact after the break.

Substitutes

Harvey Elliott (Szoboszlai, 72’): 6

Hit the post immediately after United’s equaliser, slicing his cross over Onana and so nearly into the far corner. Got his goal in extra time, though, seeing his deflected fly into the United goal on the stroke of the ET interval. However, was robbed of the ball which sparked a last minute counter for United, which they won the game from.

Cody Gakpo (Szoboszlai, 76’): 4

Really weak ball through to Elliott when Liverpool had a five-on-two counter. An absolutely golden opportunity for a third that could have sealed the game in the 90 minutes. Went on to regret that massively.

Conor Bradley (Robertson, 76’): 6

Had a well-contested back-and-forth battle with Garnacho down the right-hand side. Could have done better for the United equaliser, but did really well down the other end for Liverpool’s third, dancing past two of those in red to find Elliott in acres of space.

Kostas Tsimikas (Gomez, 101’): 5

A bit shaky after his introduction but put in a couple dangerous crosses as Liverpool once again searched for a winner.

Bobby Clark (Diaz, 113’): 6

Fresh legs as Liverpool looked to pick themselves up.
