Man United's Joshua Zirkzee EMBARRASSMENT could never be Liverpool

We've never seen anything like it - and it's proof Liverpool could never be Manchester United.

Manchester United aren't doing very well at the moment. And not even in their normal 'not doing very well' way.

They're actually putting in relegation form, struggling for any sort of control against any sort of opponent. It was the case under Erik Ten Hag and it remains the case under Ruben Amorim.

Now, perhaps the Portuguese boss turns things around. Right now, though, that seems very difficult as there isn't a single facet of football that United do particularly well.

Given that's been the way across two managers (and arguably a lot more), it's difficult to put all the blame at their feet. Certainly, the fans don't.

Amorim, seeing his side 2-0 down at home to Newcastle United with 30 minutes on the clock, decided to make an early substitution. He took off struggling forward Joshua Zirkzee, who was having another awful game.

The recent arrival only completely three of nine passes in his minutes before Amorim replaced him with Kobbie Mainoo. And the reaction to that was unlike anything we've ever heard.

Old Trafford erupted with a massive ironic cheer for Zirkzee being replaced. They were overjoyed with him leaving the pitch, and it was a reaction that prompted the player to match right down the tunnel.

Liverpool would never

Now, Liverpool have had their fair share of disappointing strikers down the years. Go back a decade and they'd replaced Luis Suarez with Rickie Lambert, Fabio Borini and Mario Balotelli. The latter scored one Premier League goal.

But the fans never stooped to this. And for a more recent example, look at the support and love that's there for Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguayan is one of the most frustrating players Liverpool have ever had. Admittedly, he's produced qualities that are lightyears ahead of what Zirkzee has done, but he's woefully inconsistent with it.

And yet, his efforts are applauded. His name is chanted regularly. When he fails, he's supported by the supporters.

What we saw at Old Trafford was the absolute opposite. Zirkzee isn't playing well, and so the fans don't want to see him. Their frustrations with the entire team taken out on one player.

It's ridiculous - and shows the massive cavern between the two clubs right now as they prepare to face one another next week.
