Liverpool linked with Federico Valverde at Real Madrid

Manchester City are reportedly looking to try and beat Liverpool to the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde.

The Reds have been linked with a plethora of midfielders in the recent past with Gini Wijnaldum leaving the club last summer and many suggesting that a new face in the middle of the park was needed.

However, the Reds opted against any transfer action back then and we are now seeing new rumours come about - though it seems most likely Liverpool will next be doing business in earnest in the summer rather than in the January market.

Valverde may be a target ahead of the 22/23 season, then, but according to El Nacional, a Catalan outlet, the Real Madrid player is also of interest to Manchester City and Pep Guardiola would like to sign him.

The 23-year-old has made over 100 appearances during his time with Los Blancos but is reportedly a little concerned over his future at the club, and this has sparked interest from the Premier League pair.

Anfield Watch Verdict

It's just another name at the moment, that's the best way to think about this story.

Liverpool are regularly linked with new midfielders and that has gone up several notches since the departure of Gini Wijnaldum.

Indeed, there is an expectancy in the summer transfer window of this year that Liverpool will be busy so you can expect plenty more transfer rumours to rear their respective heads as we get closer to that particular market - we'll just have to wait and see which ones are accurate.
