Man City injury count now at eight ahead of huge Liverpool clash

Manchester City now have yet another injury, taking their count to eight ahead of the meeting with Liverpool.

Liverpool versus Manchester City is always one of the biggest games of the season - and it's no different this time around. The two clubs will compete in the first game back after the international break.

And they're also the two top teams in the Premier League right now. While neither are quite hitting the heights that they did in their season-long title race two years ago, the pair are still looking to be in great form.

But with the two clubs on the verge of a huge clash, City's injury problems appear to be mounting. They're already without Kevin De Bruyne long-term, of course, while John Stones and Nathan Ake both missed the 4-4 draw with Chelsea.

That was followed by Ederson being deemed unfit for international duty, while both Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic are sitting out the break, too. Squad player Sergio Gomez remains out - but could return to face Liverpool.

That's seven and now it's eight. Cope journalist Miguel Angel Diaz reports that Rodri has a 'discomfort' and will miss Spain's meeting with Cyprus.

Now, for Liverpool, this is both good and bad to see. On the one hand, City could be well short of their best squad when they lineup next Saturday.

On the other hand, a conspicuous number of first-team players are getting a long break here. If Nunes, Kovacic, Ederson and Rodri are all okay to play, then they're not just fit but well-rested.

Liverpool have 18 players away on international duty right now with very few missing the break. Those that are have long-term injuries, such as Andy Robertson or Thiago. Ibrahima Konate may be the only one who's out but could return.

The Reds won't really know what they're facing until the day, then. It could be a broken City team or it could be a revitalised one.
