Luke Chambers reveals advice Jurgen Klopp gave to him ahead of full debut
Luke Chambers fulfilled a childhood dream on Thursday as he made his full debut for Liverpool.
The 19-year-old was selected by Jurgen Klopp as the Reds thrashed Toulouse 5-1 in the Europa League, making it three wins from three in Group E.
Chambers has been with the club since the age of six, and having made his first appearance off the bench in last month's Carabao Cup win over Leicester, he was left ecstatic upon being awarded his first start.
“I’ve dreamt of this moment since I was six years old,” Chambers told the club's website.
“I’ve come through the ranks of the Academy, and as a boy growing up, going through the Academy, that’s your dream [so] it feels really good!”
With it being a moment he was sure to have played in his mind a thousand times growing up, Reds boss Klopp offered Chambers some crucial advice prior to his first start to ensure the occasion didn't get to him.
Chambers added: “[The manager] just said to enjoy it. He said there was no pressure, just go out and play how I usually play."
Seeing the Europa League as a gateway for minutes in a Liverpool shirt, Chambers has insisted that this is only the beginning for his career at Anfield.
Asked if he felt the Reds could go far in the Europa League this season, he said: “Definitely. I don’t see why not. That should be our end goal, to win it.
“And if I get more opportunities going forward then happy days.
“As a young player, that’s what you strive for, opportunities. I’m hungry for more, so hopefully more will come.”
