Luis Diaz is to remain in England while the search for his father continues, according to a report in his native Colombia.

Both of Diaz's parents were kidnapped over the weekend, when armed gunmen on motorbikes abducted the pair at a petrol station in their hometown of Barrancas, near the Venezuelan border.

Diaz's mother, Cilenis Marulanda, has since been recovered safely. However, the search for the 26-year-old's father, Luis Manuel Diaz, remains on.

The Colombian special forces have been drafted in to help find Diaz's father, while air and land patrols have been searching the mountainous, forest-covered region between Colombia and Venezuela.

Meanwhile, authorities have are offering a reward of around £40,000 for any information that may help in the search and rescue process.

Diaz was left out of Liverpool's 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday, with Jurgen Klopp revealing that he and the squad only learned of the distressing situation the night before the game.

Diogo Jota, who scored the Reds' first goal of the game, held aloft a 'Diaz 7' shirt in tribute to his teammate.

While Diaz is likely to be absent from the Carabao Cup clash with Bournemouth on Wednesday, the winger will not return to Colombia amid the ongoing situation – according a report from local outlet Semana,

The report cites journalist José Hugo Illera's claim that the winger will not fly home due to 'security issues'. It is added that Diaz 'had every intention' of travelling to Colombia but was persuaded by his family to remain in England.

Speaking after the win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp said: "It's a situation we can't even imagine if we [have not gone] through that same situation.

"All we can say is we are here for him and hopefully the things work out well in the end.

"It was clear we have to give the game an extra sense and it was fighting for Lucho, then the boys put out the shirt and I was not 100% prepared for that to be honest. It was really touching but wonderful as well."
