Luis Diaz lined up for one of the biggest transfers of 2024

Luis Diaz sits atop a shortlist this summer for what could be one of the biggest transfers of 2024. Liverpool won’t want to sell, though.

This comes from Foot Mercato. They claim that Paris Saint-Germain have made Luis Diaz their preferred target to replace Kylian Mbappé this summer.

Mbappé will leave PSG with the end of his contract, almost certainly joining Real Madrid on a free transfer. That leaves PSG in desperate need of a replacement - and they supposedly believe Diaz is their best bet.

Not that this is straightforward. For one, not everyone at PSG thinks the same way as sporting director Luis Ocampos believes the club should aim for a younger signing than the 27-year-old Diaz.

There's also no real sign that Liverpool are open to a sale, though. Fabrizio Romano moved to make that clear later on Thursday - he doesn't believe there's any movement on Diaz in either direction.

"Liverpool have not been approached by Paris Saint-Germain for Luis Díaz so far, no negotiations or talks taking place," he wrote on Twitter. "LFC not showing any desire or plan to sell Díaz, considered key top player.

"PSG have different priorities and currently not working on Luis Díaz deal."

Luis Diaz and his future

Liverpool almost certainly won't want to sell Diaz this summer. It is, however, a position where they might be a little more open to a big change than others.

That's simply because the squad boasts so many players capable of playing from the left - Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez are all good from that side.

Thus a mega-offer could tempt Liverpool, especially as they'll be changing things anyway with the new manager. It will all depend on how highly a new boss values Diaz, combined with the level of overhaul they feel the squad needs.

If they're after several new players, letting someone go for a massive amount makes things easier. Especially when there is already plenty of competition for the spot.

But this is all speculative - Liverpool almost certainly don't want to sell Diaz, nor have PSG actually bid for the player. There's a long way to go and a lot to change at Anfield before we have a proper idea of what they'll want to do.
