Luis Díaz names key attributes he's had to develop for Liverpool success

Luis Diaz has revealed how he has had to develop both his intensity and aggression since joining Liverpool and playing in the Premier League.

Despite Liverpool's abundance of attacking talent, the left flank has essentially been locked down by Luis Diaz. Darwin Nuñez, Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo can all be deployed on the left, but when he's fit, the Colombian has become Jurgen Klopp's preferred starter.

Since first joining from Porto in January 2022, the winger has become a fan favourite amongst Liverpool supporters and it's clear to see why.

Diaz enjoyed a stellar first half-season and was on track to continue that form across 2022/23, before a long-term injury sustained in October saw the Colombian sidelined for six months, missing 31 games for Liverpool along the way, and stunting his electric form.

However, Diaz is now injury free and has already scored two goals in the Reds' opening two fixtures. Now the 26-year-old has revealed the driving force behind his success in a Liverpool shirt.

He told the club's matchday programme.: "I'd say that since being here I’ve gained in intensity and have a bit more aggression about me. Maybe I was developing those things at Porto already because I learned an awful lot in those aspects there too. When you come over to Europe, you work a lot more on those facets of your game, being aggressive.

"I learnt a lot about decision-making too and being more relaxed when a chance comes around. I think I've grown both in football terms and on a personal level, and all that makes me very happy."

Providing he keeps fit, Diaz is on course to have his best season yet for Liverpool, and putting on the Reds shirt is definitely something he doesn't take for granted.

Diaz said: "It's something I’m very proud of, being at such a massive club as this one. I am incredibly pleased to be here, very much at ease and really happy. I always try to enjoy every minute. I've got some great teammates and I play alongside some big-name players, who at one time I used to watch playing on TV.

"So for me this really is like a dream come true and let's hope I can keep realising even more of those dreams and continue with the successes I've known up to now."

The Colombian will now take a break form his Liverpool duties to take part in international fixtures against Venezuela (Barranquilla, 8 September) and Chile (Macul, 13 September).
