Liverpool could be back involved in a potentially record-breaking deal following the latest developments.
Liverpool FC News Today: Barcelona hero set to leave as Trent Alexander-Arnold nears agreement
It's been a quiet transfer window for the Reds. Richard Hughes was never going to pull the trigger on any deal in January. It's unlike of the Reds to plan to make moves in the winter market.
Traditionally, Liverpool have always been reactive to the market in January and that is what's happening at Anfield right now.
Arne Slot has a well harmonised squad with ample amount of players to sustain the Reds' campaign to win both the Premier League and the Champions League title come the end of the season.
However, the Reds could still be in business.
Record-breaking deal back on for Franco Mastantuono
Anfield Watch exclusively revealed that Liverpool's Global Talent Scouting Manager Kyle Woodbanks travelled to the U20 Sudamericana.
One of the players on his radar could be Franco Mastantuono, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool in what could be a record-breaking deal.
According to reports, the 17-year-old has a release clause that is €47m, which would make him the most expensive sale from the Argentinian top flight in the history of the competition.
Liverpool's presence at the tournament clearly indicates that the Reds are still interested in his services and that a potentially record-breaking deal could be on the line here.
River Plate will not let him go on the cheap, so it's likely the Reds would have to trigger his release clause.
Knowing FSG that would be an awful lot of money for the Reds to spend on a teenager. However, the fact that Woodbanks is in South America right now is a strong indication that there is more to this story.
Woodbanks only makes appearances for big events and significant deals being in place. Perhaps, this time around Liverpool are strongly looking at Mastantuono as a possibility.
