Liverpool's top 10 Premier League goalscorers
Liverpool may have won the league just once in the Premier League era, but some of the most talented attackers in world football have graced the Anfield turf over the years.
But who are the 10 highest Premier League goalscorers in Liverpool's history?
10. Daniel Sturridge - 50 goals
Sturridge was ravaged by injuries at Liverpool, but he was a firm fan favourite and one of the most naturally gifted English footballers of his generation. Having joined the club for a relatively meagre £12m fee in January 2013, he remains one of the best winter signings in the club's history and his partnership with Luis Suarez in the 2013/14 season made Liverpool fans across the world fall in love with the sport again.
D-Studge was well past his best when he left in 2019, but the fact that he left the club as a European champion meant he got his happy ending.
9. Dirk Kuyt - 51 goals
The scrappy hat-trick against Manchester United in 2011 immediately comes to mind when one mentions Kuyt. The Dutch international was a model professional and fought tooth and nail for the club regardless of where he played — be it as a striker or a winger.
Kuyt won just one League Cup in his seven years at the club, but you don't make over 200 appearances for a club like Liverpool and amass 104 caps for the Netherlands unless you work your socks off, and he did just that. Certified Liverpool cult hero.
8. Fernando Torres - 65 goals
His long blonde hair, the long-sleeved shirts, the Nike t90s, the iconic chant in the Kop and his telepathic combination with Steven Gerrard endeared Torres to the Anfield faithful immediately. For Liverpool fans who started following the club in the late 2000s, El Niño was their first love and a few years later, their first heartbreak as he completed a deadline-day move to Chelsea in January 2011.
Nevertheless, nostalgia is a powerful drug, so Liverpool fans still fondly look back upon his time at Anfield as he established himself as one of the most potent attackers in world football.
7. Luis Suarez - 69 goals
A handful of outrageously gifted footballers have worn the Red of Liverpool over the years, but the things Suarez did with the ball at his feet in Merseyside will take some beating. He nearly spearheaded Liverpool to the Premier League title in 2013/14 despite missing the first eight games of the season — while also scoring 31 Premier League goals despite not being on penalties.
In complete honesty, Suarez was too good for the era of Liverpool he joined. Yes, Brendan Rodgers' nearly-men came within touching distance of the Premier League trophy in 2014, but the Uruguayan madman deserved to be fighting for multiple trophies every season — something he eventually did at Barcelona.
6. Roberto Firmino - 82 goals
Torres was the darling of the Kop and Suarez is arguably the most talented Liverpool player of the Premier League era, but it's fitting that when the Reds eventually got their hands on the league title, it was Firmino leading the line for them. He scored 82 league goals for the club — some without even looking — but Liverpool fans will always remember him for his selflessness and the beaming smile on his face every time he took to the pitch.
"Mo Salah, world-class, but not every day. Sadio Mane, world-class, but not every day. Roberto Firmino, world-class, pretty much every day" is an iconic quote from Jurgen Klopp. If you're still in any doubt about how much Firmino is adored at Liverpool, just have a look at what his former teammates had to say about him when he announced he was leaving. Bonafide Liverpool legend.
5. Sadio Mane - 90 goals
As the first big signing of the Jurgen Klopp era, the pressure was on Mane to hit the ground running immediately and he did so in some style with that iconic goal and celebration against Arsenal in 2016. He came to Liverpool as a rough diamond and left in 2022 as one of the best players in the world in his position, having won every major trophy at Anfield.
They say time flies when you're having fun and Mane, along with Firmino and Mohamed Salah, formed arguably the best attacking trio in world football. We've entered the 'certified legends' territory now and Mane is certainly right up there.
4. Michael Owen - 118 goals
Owen might have tarnished his Liverpool legacy by moving to Manchester United towards the back end of his career, but his impact at Liverpool can't be overstated. Having burst onto the scene as a prodigious talent, Owen rose through the ranks at Liverpool and quickly established himself as one of the biggest match-winners in world football.
Goals and trophies followed, and — to date — he remains the only Liverpool player to have got his hands on the Ballon d'Or.
3. Steven Gerrard - 120 goals
Captain Fantastic and Mr. Liverpool are some nicknames the boyhood Scouser earned during his glittering career, but I don't think mere words could sum up exactly what he means to the club. Be it that night in Istanbul or the FA Cup final against West Ham United in 2006, he constantly bailed Liverpool out of impossible situations when he had no right to.
Francesco Totti said Steven Gerrard would be the captain of his World XI dream team and Jose Mourinho referred to him as his beloved enemy. What else can you say about the man? The Premier League title may have eluded him, but his presence almost single-handedly prevented Liverpool from fading into irrelevance.
2. Robbie Fowler - 128 goals
The boyhood Evertonian was hailed as the most naturally gifted finisher playing in England at the time and was blessed with a wand of a left foot. Fowler won five major honours in his first stint at Anfield and returned to the club in 2006 on loan, as he was part of the squad that lost the 2007 UEFA Champions League final to AC Milan in Athens.
His goalscoring exploits earned him the nickname "God" from the Liverpool faithful and was the club's highest goalscorer in Premier League history for 15 years, until...
1. Mohamed Salah - 137 goals*
When Salah was initially poised to join the club in 2013, Jose Mourinho pulled off an eleventh-hour hijack and took the player to Chelsea at the time. However, as fate would have it, the Egyptian would get his chance to wear the Liverpool red, this time in 2017 as Jurgen Klopp turned to him after missing out on Julian Brandt and Julian Draxler.
I don't think anyone could've predicted what would follow, as Salah took English football by storm with a Premier League record tally of 32 goals in his first season at the club. The "one-season wonder" shouts were also put to rest emphatically in the years to follow, as he won every major trophy there is to win at Liverpool while also bagging a handful of personal accolades.
He's possibly the most important signing of the Klopp era and is already an all-time great. Salah's current deal runs out in the summer of 2025, and if he continues on the same trajectory, he will break all kinds of records for Liverpool in the coming years.
