Liverpool’s kits have been a bit of a story this season, not least because of the announced new deal with Adidas set to start from next season.

As a result Nike have appeared to try and make the most out of their final season with the Reds, creating some stunning pieces of merchandise such as the Anthem jackets that the players are seen donning pre-game.

The reunion with the German fashion brand turned a few heads back to Liverpool kits of old, anticipating kits as good as those of yesteryear. Rumours that an alternative kit of the classic ‘sea green’ could see a reappearance was an eye-catcher.

But a different old kit has emerged that is sure to capture headlines.

Rejected Liverpool home kit emerges

Kit collector Semih Kecqecioğlu (@semihkececioglu on Twitter) has released a snippet of what he refers to as the “Liverpool 2023/24 home rejected prototype player issue” kit.

This is a never-seen-before prototype that never saw the light of day - until now.

The kit itself features a darker red with a swirling pattern design resembling that of crushed velvet. It would have certainly caught eyes due to its unique nature but, as was said in the tweet, ended up being rejected.

Liverpool instead went for a bold minimalist design in a bright red with white details, including collar. FootyHeadlines suggest that the rejected kit could have come with yellow details, creating a kit similar to this season’s.

Liverpool’s Adidas deal is reportedly worth up to £60m per year, making it one of the most lucrative kit deals in the world.

But this leak shows that Nike, for all the more and lesser-loved kits they have produced, were always willing to be bold - the club went in other directions.

The leaks for the adidas kits suggest Liverpool will be able to use the iconic ‘trefoil’ logo for potential away kits, as well as retro badges of their own to accentuate the kits and allow them to stand out.

Hopefully, regardless of their design, Liverpool will be able to lift a Premier League in Adidas once again.
