Julian Alvarez is very much a top target for Liverpool in the summer transfer window as the club look to revive Arne Slot's offensive options.

Anfield Watch revealed exclusively that the Reds are ready to shatter their club record to sign the Argentine with Atletico Madrid wanting a figure in excess of £100m to part ways with the 25-year-old.

Liverpool have a long-standing interest in Alvarez. The club's scouts have been following him since his River Plate days and they wanted to bring him to Anfield last summer when Manchester City put him on the market.

Back then the Reds could not quite reach an agreement with City. However, this time around Atletico Madrid might be a more favourable negotiator than the club's direct Premier League title rival.

And there's another advantage Liverpool have that could help entice a deal for Alvarez.

Why £60m deal will help Liverpool land Julian Alvarez

The reason why Liverpool are huge admirers of Alvarez is because he is the perfect forward option for Arne Slot's style of play.

He's a fluid attacker who will equally create chances for his teammates and score goals. When he gets into goalscoring opportunities he is efficient in front of goal.

Off the ball, he covers a lot of ground. He has covered the most distances for Atletico Madrid in the Champions League (96.5km) this season.

The prospect of him lining up alongside Dominik Szoboszlai in the no.10 role would be an absolute nightmare for opposition defenders trying to build out from the back.

Of course, Liverpool have an obstacle in Atletico Madrid's steep valuation for Alvarez. However, Liverpool may feel a £100m deal could be worth it in the long-term, not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well.

Liverpool struck a new agreement worth £60m every season with Adidas that will come into effect this summer [The Guardian].

Alvarez is an Adidas client, and he even filmed a promotional video with Liverpool's Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Kieran Morrison and Trey Nyoni last summer just as the Reds were holding talks with him.

On the surface, Alvarez being contracted to Adidas may not mean much but it's actually a hugely beneficial factor when it comes to marketing potential for the Reds.

Liverpool will bank on Alvarez being one of the club's star players in years to come. Having him become the face of both Liverpool and Adidas will open up new opportunities and markets.

It means Alvarez could play a leading role in marketing Liverpool's new shirts and any other Adidas branded items.

He'll also open up a new market for Liverpool in Argentina and his arrival could secure more shirts for the Reds as well as more opportunities to get the club's brand in Adidas promotional material.

That is why Liverpool may be enticed to spend a club record sum to bring Alvarez in.

Both on and off the pitch, this has the potential to be a lucrative deal for the Reds in the long-term and one that could more than recoup the £100m they could end up spending on the Argentine.
