Liverpool plans for a Jurgen Klopp farewell parade to be torn up

Liverpool's plans for an open-top bus parade through the city centre to bid farewell to manager Jurgen Klopp are now expected to be shelved, except in the unlikely event the side secures the Premier League title.

The idea for a city-wide celebration was first mooted in the aftermath of Klopp announcing he would leave at the end of the season and Liverpool's subsequent League Cup victory over Chelsea in February.

At the time, the Reds were still on course for a historic quadruple and the club had reportedly prepared contingency plans, put forward for approval by Liverpool City Council, for various scenarios. These included winning either the Premier League or the Europa League.

However, according to This is Anfield, recent developments, including Liverpool's elimination from Europe at the hands of Atalanta and dropping out of the title race, have led to the anticipated shelving of the proposed celebrations.

Different circumstances

In a previous statement addressing the potential end-of-season celebration, Klopp expressed his reluctance to be the focal point of such an event.

"That’s the one part that's not so cool," he said. "I don’t think that makes sense."

The manager's stance, combined with 'only' winning the League Cup after what promised to be an incredible season, has prompted Liverpool to reconsider their plans.

Under Klopp's tenure, the club has previously held celebratory parades, notably following their Champions League triumph over Tottenham in 2019 and after the 2022 Champions League final, where, despite defeat to Real Madrid, Liverpool showcased both the FA Cup and League Cup.

Reflecting on the support shown by fans during the latter, Klopp famously remarked: “[We] lost the Champions League final the night before, and the people arrive here in the shape they are, the mood they are. Absolutely outstanding.

"This is the best club in the world. I don’t care what other people think!”
