Liverpool defender Joel Matip has been shortlisted for the Premier League Player of the Month award for February.

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side had a great month in January, winning four out of four Premier League games.

The Reds kicked off the month with a 2-0 win over Leicester City, followed by a 1-0 win against Burnley at Turf Moor.

Finally, a 3-1 win against Norwich City and a very impressive 6-0 victory against Leeds United at Anfield ended the month off amazingly.

Finishing the month with 12 goals scored and one goal conceded is very impressive, to say the least, and it's a big reason as to why Liverpool are back in the title race.

A lot of Liverpool players performed really well in these games but one player stood out the most, Joel Matip.

The Cameroonian played 360 minutes across the four games, scoring one amazing Messiesque goal against Leeds and a cheeky nutmeg assist for Diogo Jota against Leicester.

These performances have gotten Matip nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for February.

Other players who have been nominated for the award this month are Southampton's Che Adams, Newcastle United's Ryan Fraser, Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane, Burnley's Ben Mee and Crystal Palace's Wilfred Zaha.

Anfield Watch Verdict

What a season Matip is having. It's the first real injury-free season and we're finally seeing what he can offer when he's always available.

Matip has a solid shot of actually winning this award, which would make him the third Liverpool player to claim it this season, joining Mohamed Salah (October) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (November).

Liverpool fans aren't the only ones pushing for the centre-back to win the award either, with his wife, Larissa Matip, also asking for people to vote for her husband.
