But he is an even more important figure for his national team, where he has been the captain of his country for close to two years.

In that time, Szoboszlai has led Hungary to a 14 game unbeaten run and qualification to Euro 2024.

His next goal will be to qualify his country to a long-elusive World Cup - for the first time in 40 years.

But for now the focus is on the Nations League, where Hungary will be taking on familiar faces for Szoboszlai in the Netherlands.

Szoboszlai set to write history for Hungary

In the game against the Netherlands on Saturday night, Liverpool's no.8 could write himself in the history books by becoming the youngest player to reach 50 caps for his nation at just 24 years and 22 days old.

The previous record was held by Hungary's only Ballon d'Or winner, Florian Albert who reached the milestone at 24 years and 24 days old.

This will be another remarkable achievement for Szoboszlai, who has been on the periphery of the national team since he was 16 years old.

Szoboszlai was first called-up to the national team at 16 years of age by Bernd Storck and became the youngest Hungarian to be called into the senior set-up in over 100 years.

He's also the youngest Hungarian to score for the country in the 21st century netting his first goal at 18 years, 10 months and 15 days old.

Szoboszlai will be hoping to celebrate his achievement with another victory against a formidable opponent in the Netherlands.

Currently, both teams are level on points with five points to date. A win for Hungary would all but certainly ensure their status in the A division of the Nations League.

It will be an intriguing match-up with the last game between the two sides ending in a draw in Budapest.

For Liverpool fans around the world, all they will be hoping for is for the quartet of Liverpool players involved in the game to avoid injury.
