Liverpool academy product Paul Glatzel is set to leave the Reds permanently in the current January transfer window, with a move to Swindon Town lined up.

The England-born Germany U18 international never managed a senior appearance for the Reds, but was a regular in Liverpool's youth teams.

Before the 2023/24 campaign, the 22-year-old had spent the last two seasons on loan with Tranmere Rovers, the striker managing six goals and five assists across 22 appearances for the lower league side.

However, the youngster suffered several serious injuries during his time at Prenton Park, restricting his minutes and stifling his development.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Paul Glatzel is set to join Swindon before the end of the month, although the Reds are unlikely to make much from the deal given the forward has already entered the final six months of his contract.

League Two Swindon already have former Liverpool academy players Jake Cain and Tom Clayton in their ranks, with Glatzel linking up with some familiar faces at the County Ground.

The young attacker has netted three goals in five Premier League 2 appearances for Liverpool's U21s this season.

Glatzel is not the only academy player to depart Liverpool this January, with Luke Chambers having recently joined Wigan Athletic in League One on loan until the end of the campaign.

Goalkeepers Marcelo Pitaluga and Vitezslav Jaros have also left the club on loan this month, joining St Patrick's Athletic and Sturm Graz respectively.

Fabio Carvalho has joined Hull City on loan in January after seeing his temporary switch to RB Leipzig cut short.

The likes of Owen Beck, Rhys Williams, Nat Phillips and James Balagizi have all returned to Anfield this month from loan spells, but all four could be sent out again before the end of the transfer window.
