Liverpool youngster Clarkson targeted by EFL Clubs

Liverpool youngster Leighton Clarkson is the subject of January transfer window interest from EFL clubs after excelling in the first half of the season at SPFL side Aberdeen.

The 21-year-old midfielder has been integral to Jim Goodwin's side in Scotland, scoring 4 goals and recording 1 assist, as the Dons sit 4th in the Scottish Premiership. It's been his fine-form that has attracted reported interest from Championship sides West Brom, Reading and Queens Park Rangers, according to sources at F00tballInsider247.com.

ANOTHER BRIGHT PROSPECT

After only making 7 appearances for Blackburn in a previous loan spell, Clarkson has kicked on and delivered some stunning performances for Aberdeen, which has attracted the interest from clubs in England. Jim Goodwin has already commented that his side are in "constant dialogue" with the Reds in a desperate bid to keep him, but it remains to be seen whether or not the EFL clubs that are interested act on their interest in the midfielder, or if Liverpool allow Clarkson to stay at Aberdeen for the rest of the season. Seeing as Clarkson has been playing well in Scotland, it would be a huge surprise if Clarkson made the move back to England after settling well in Scotland.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Leighton Clarkson has done really well for himself at Aberdeen under the stewardship of Jim Goodwin, who was appointed in February after leaving St Mirren. Clarkson has kicked on since his torrid time at Blackburn and having scored against Rangers this season, it comes as no surprise that there are English clubs looking at his signature. However, if I was in his shoes, I would continue at Aberdeen for the rest of this season, continue to be on good form, then see what happens in the summer. But as the old saying in football goes - you never know.
