Liverpool win vs Palace shocks Jurgen Klopp: What he told players

Jurgen Klopp was amazed with what he saw play as Liverpool beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Here's what he told his players.

Liverpool somehow came away with three points on Saturday, picking up a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace. There was a point where such a result looked almost impossible.

The Reds started slowly and didn't really get going. They went 1-0 down in the second half after a penalty - a goal that could have settled the game. Liverpool created nothing of note for well over an hour, while Palace looked comfortable in defence.

But everything changed when Jordan Ayew received a second yellow card. That sent Palace a man down and Liverpool immediately took advantage - Mohamed Salah equalised within a couple of minutes.

Suddenly, Jurgen Klopp's side had complete control and were pushing for a winner. They found it, too, as Harvey Elliott fired home from outside the box to win the points.

Despite the win, it felt as though Liverpool got away with one here. Klopp summed it all up after the game as he revealed what he told the players after the final whistle.

"I told the boys that’s the first time I saw someone play as bad as we did for 76 minutes and still win it," he said, per James Pearce.

Klopp's spot on there. Liverpool were awful for the vast majority of the game and didn't create a thing until the red card. They were second-best against a team in terrible form.

But they did find a way to win. That's at least a positive and often, winning these games is the sign of a competitive side. That's certainly the positive way to look at things.

Liverpool will need to be much better over the rest of the month, though. Next up in the Premier League is Manchester United - and that should be a very different game.
