Liverpool have a bit of a crisis unfolding at centre-back and urgent action will need to be taken in the transfer market if the team is going to be successful moving forward.

In addition, Jarrell Quansah has been approached by Newcastle, a move that could prove beneficial for both the player and the club. The 22-year-old is incredibly low on confidence and the £30m offer could go a long way to help boost the team's transfer budget for new players.

And then we come to Joe Gomez, who has been at Liverpool for the best part of 10 years now. He has not become an integral player in the squad and his injuries have made him an unreliable asset.

One centre-back should be joining the Reds this summer, at the very least, and while several other targets are already on the club's shortlist, a new report has linked another player with us.

Liverpool "set their sights" on Loïc Badé

According to Fichajes, the Reds have been impressed by the Frenchman's 'outstanding' performance in La Liga this season, despite Sevilla sitting 12th in the competition.

His release clause is at €60m (£51m) and having demonstrated strong leadership and aerial skills throughout the campaign, he would be a useful asset for Arne Slot to have in his artillery.

Across 26 matches, he has played around 87 minutes per appearance, signifying that he can be a reliable asset with regard to his fitness, and within those games, he helped secure seven clean sheets.

While just 24 years old, it is clear that Badé has a huge future ahead of him and if Liverpool decide to activate his release clause, the the Reds could have a French centre-back partnership that could lock-down the defence for now and in the years to come.

However, when a player like Badé is lined with Liverpool, the likelihood of a move actually happening is always overlooked. He is an important asset for Sevilla and they are unlikely to sign off on a move where one of their best players leaves, so how can the Reds proceed?

Well, the report acknowledges that Sevilla actually have a similar problem to Barcelona unfolding, where they need to make some sacrifices to help balance the books, a state of economic turmoil that could easily lead to them letting go a player with Badé's potential.

And at £51m, there is a lot for Liverpool to like about the potential deal. He would add significant depth to the defence, while leaving a lot of money available for the recruitment department to address the other needs in the squad.

In addition, Badé missed out on playing European football this season, after getting a flavour of it during the 2023/24 season. With Sevilla unlikely to qualify for even the Conference league this season, a move to join Liverpool would have a lot of upsides to tempt him.

EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool ENTER Hugo Ekitike talks

For now, he will join the club's shortlist of potential options, but with a release clause in his contract, it is likely that he will fall relatively high up the priority list. A top player for a reasonable fee.
