WHY Liverpool will play in Nike kits during pre-season
Liverpool have a long and illustrious history wearing the Adidas stripes on their shirt and it was confirmed earlier this week that a new chapter will be forged between the club and the iconic brand next season.
Fans had already been aware that a deal was in the pipeline following a number of leaked reports and excitement has been brewing over the past few months that a range of nostalgic kit designs could be in the works.

The agreement will bring an end to Liverpool's five-year partnership with Nike, although according to TalkSport, "the adidas deal is a 'significant increase' but the incentivised arrangement means that the amount is 'dependent on performance on the pitch and global sales".

As such, while the fans will see a return to football shirts of old, the club will receive a significant financial boost as part of the deal as well. In a sense, everyone wins.
However, there is one catch to the agreement and it is likely to perplex everyone involved at the club when the summer rolls around.
Liverpool will wear Nike during pre-season
Bizarrely, the deal with Adidas will only begin from August 1 according to the club's official statement.
As such, while Liverpool will begin their season proper with the iconic Adidas stripes on their shirt, they will be wearing the Nike tick on their clothing during the pre-season campaign.
Presumably, Liverpool will continue wearing their current training gear and kits during that time, when most other clubs would be brandishing their new outfits for the season ahead.
In turn, the decision might impact Liverpool's expected financial return from the new agreement because fans will not be allowed to purchase their new supplies until just before the season starts.
Liverpool will likely spend their pre-season campaign in the USA or elsewhere in the world, promoting the club as a global brand, but sadly they will do so without the new kits.

However, the club might also be missing Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk when the pre-season rolls around, as the trio are yet to pen contract extensions, so it seems as though the club will have no shortage of uncertainty when the 2025/26 season begins.
