"Liverpool will have a plan in place" - Neil Jones' opinion on Klopp's successor

Journalist Neil Jones has given his opinion on who could replace Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp in the future.

The German's contract expires at the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign.

With that being the case, Jones believes that Klopp will not renew his contract and depart Anfield in the summer of 2024.

The journalist further added that he could see Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard succeeding the 54-year-old.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Jones told Sportening the following: “As we are in January 2022, I think 2024 will be the end of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

"I think Liverpool will have a plan in place for his successor, and I think it will involve Steven Gerrard.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Liverpool signed Klopp back in October 2015. Since then, the Reds have won four major trophies, which highlights that the German has been a successful appointment.

Klopp has ultimately been able to sign quality players (Virgil van Dijk, Alisson, Fabinho, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and etc) during his time as the boss of Liverpool.

It will be sad day when Klopp does depart Anfield. But, all good things do come to an end. We do agree with Jones that we could see Gerrard, a Liverpool legend, replacing the German in the future.

Gerrard has a been a senior manager since Rangers hired him back in 2018. The Scouser won the Scottish Premiership with the Glasgow-based club back in 2021, which proves that he is a very capable manager.

Gerrard is now the manager of Aston Villa. After 11 matches in charge, the 41-year-old has been securing 1.45 points per match.

If Gerrard can keep on improving as a manager, then there is no reason why he could not take the reigns at Anfield.

As we have already pointed out, the Scouser is a legend of the club. Gerrard made 710 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.

Therefore, he will know what to expect if he does get the job in the future.
