Left-back is a position of need this summer and it should be no secret that Milos Kerkez is the favoured candidate at this point.

The Hungarian full-back has been the player linked most often to the club and for good reason, his performances in the Premier League have been incredibly impressive.

The Reds' current situation with Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas is untenable. One of the pair will leave this season in order to create space for a new player, and if Kerkez is to move then, he would likely become the team's first choice player in the position.

Liverpool haven't signed a full-back since Tsimikas in 2020 and the cost of players in the position has risen astronomically. As such, the club will want to be assured that they are making the right decision.

According to the latest transfer update from the leading journalists around the club, Kerkez ticks all the boxes.

Kerkez "fits the profile" to be Liverpool's leading candidate

Robertson's performance in the 3-2 loss to Fulham on Sunday laid bare all the reasons why Liverpool are looking at bringing in a new left-back.

During the sequence leading unto Alex Iwobi's goal, the Scottish captain made three different errors - making a loose pass, failing to win a one-on-one headed duel, and allowing Iwobi the time and space to get a clear shot off at goal, which deflected off his chest. Put simply, it was a disaster.

In the fall-out, The Athletic's Liverpool correspondent James Pearce reaffirmed that Liverpool were concerned about their left-back options, providing an update on the current transfer links.

He said: "Liverpool do need to sign a left-back this summer. The most sensible approach would be to move Tsimikas on and bring in a younger, highly calibre replacement.

"Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez is admired by recruitment staff and, at the age of 21, the Hungary international fits the profile to a greater extent than Antonee Robinson of Fulham, who turns 28 in August. Ajax's Jorrel Hato, 19, is another possible option."

While speculating about the move for Kerkez, it seemed fair to assume that Liverpool's recruitment team were admirers of the player, not least because Richard Hughes, the club's sporting director, was working for Bournemouth before he joined the Reds, and he initially brought Kerkez over to the Cherries from AZ Alkmaar back in 2023.

However, it was not known that the entire recruitment department were impressed with his efforts, which in turn should suggest that the transfer is more likely than ever to go ahead.

Kerkez has two goals and five assists this season, while helping to keep seven clean sheets, He's been an incredibly influential player in Bournemouth's side this season and his qualities are clear.

EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool ENTER Hugo Ekitike talks

The only concern was whether the transfer links that were being reported had the approval of the club's recruitment team, but now that the club's interest in him has been confirmed, Liverpool fans will have every right to dream of seeing the up and coming talent at Anfield next season.
