Chelsea are on the verge of signing Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The reporter has tweeted that the England international will be joining the Blues for a transfer fee of £45 million.

However, The Mirror's John Cross has revealed that Chelsea were not the only club interested in securing Sterling's services.

The journalist has made it clear that Liverpool were in for the 27-year-old.

He wrote: “Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel beat off interest from Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Paris Saint Germain AND Liverpool for the Manchester City star.

“(Thomas) Tuchel’s personal touch and detailed conversations convinced Sterling to join Chelsea to help further his career even though City made it clear they wanted him to stay.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Sterling was a terrific player for Manchester City. The winger scored 131 goals and registered 94 assists in 337 appearances for the club's first-team.

However, we are glad that Sterling will not be joining the Reds. As we all know, the England international represented Liverpool's first-team between 2012-15.

But, Sterling ended up forcing a move out of Anfield to join Manchester City. So, we don't have a lot of respect for the 27-year-old.

Besides, Liverpool are stocked with attackers. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has the likes of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Darwin Nunez at his disposal.

So, you could make an argument that Sterling would have been nothing more than a squad player at Anfield anyway.

On another note, Liverpool will face Manchester City at Anfield on the 15th of October (Premier League).

We look forward to seeing the Reds back in action.
