Liverpool's advantage over PSG threatened to be RIPPED away
Liverpool will soon be coming out of an incredibly gruelling sequence of fixtures. Arne Slot’s side will have played 16 matches across the first TWO months of the year by the time they face Newcastle in midweek.
That equates to a game just over every three days on average. With short turnaround times and a core group of players being relied upon time and again, it’s impressive that Liverpool are flying so high in the Premier League and Champions League.
Liverpool Transfer Latest: Trent Alexander-Arnold successor FOUND as star enters talks
As a result of the Reds’ elimination from the FA Cup by Plymouth, the club will have a relatively gentle start to March and across the month will only play four fixtures before the international break.

Two of those matches will come against Paris Saint-Germain on March 5 and March 11 in the last 16 of the Champions League. Slot and his team will no doubt be hoping for full fitness and a clean bill of health heading into those matches and freshness will be vital.
A free slot on FA Cup weekend therefore is a welcome respite.
PSG's stunning turnaround
PSG didn’t get off to the best of starts in the Champions League league phase, winning only one of their first five matches. But they turned it around, winning their last three in a row including a come-from-behind 4-2 win over Manchester City.

They then beat fellow Ligue 1 side Brest 10-0 on aggregate in the play-off round to make the last 16. Luis Enrique’s side are purring at the moment with a decent shout of being called the best team in Europe on form.
But like Liverpool in January and February, PSG are about to run into choppy waters as a result of an unfriendly fixture list. They are scheduled to play seven matches in only 21 days - including the Liverpool double-header.
As well as the games against the Reds, the Parisians are due to play Lyon in the league (Feb 23), Stade de Briochin in the Coupe de France quarter-finals (Feb 26), Lille (Mar 1), Rennes (Mar 8) and Marseille (Mar 16) in the league before the international break begins.
Lille game postponed?
It’s a hostile set of fixtures but there could be relief on the horizon for PSG ahead of the first leg against Liverpool.
According to Ici Nord, Lille have put in a request to POSTPONE the French Ligue 1 game against PSG on March 1 in order to better prepare for their own Champions League fixture against Borussia Dortmund.
And if that request is granted, PSG’s top players will be unlikely to play between the game against Lyon on Sunday and the game against Liverpool on March 5.
That’s because the Stade de Briochin game involves a French fourth-tier team with Luis Enrique being given the opportunity to freshen up his squad.

Liverpool’s advantage before the PSG first leg - a free weekend due to FA Cup elimination - is likely to be wiped out due to the French side getting the same break.
LFP have been generous in granting these kinds of requests before so it is likely that Lille's wishes will be granted.
