Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest – Predictions

Liverpool are back in action this Sunday as they take on Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

After two disappointing results before the October international break, the Reds are back to winning ways having seen off Everton in the Merseyside derby and then trounced Toulouse 5-1 in the Europa League.

Next up is Steve Cooper's Forest, with Jurgen Klopp and co – still only three points off the top of the table – looking to put a run together as we head into the increasingly packed winter schedule.

The clash with Forest comes less than 72 hours after the Europa League win over Toulouse, while memories of Taiwo Awoniyi's winner at the City Ground last season mean this encounter won't be taken lightly.

Here's how some of Anfield Watch's writers predict how Sunday's contest will play out.

Sam McGuire: This should be a fairly straightforward game for the Reds.

Anfield is a fortress, Jurgen Klopp has attacking options once again following the return of Cody Gakpo meaning Liverpool have various ways to win the game.

Nottingham Forest head into this game without a win since early September. They’ve drawn four of their last five and they managed to give up a 2-0 lead in their last outing to draw 2-2 with Luton Town. The Reds have scored twice as many goals as the visitors.

Everything about this points to a routine home win. This is what worries me. Having said that, I’m going to put my faith in this new-look side to continue their fine start to the campaign.

Liverpool 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Dan Vassie: All the momentum is in Liverpool's favour going into the Nottingham Forest game. Not only did they comfortably beat Everton in the Merseyside derby, but they absolutely trounced Toulouse in the Europa League mid-week and goals are flowing to say the least.

With the game at Anfield, and Forest coming off the back of bottling a two-goal lead to Luton of all clubs, it's hard to see anything other than a comfortable Reds win on Sunday.

After his Man-of-the-Match performance against Toulouse, Ryan Gravenberch must keep his place. The Dutchman has proven that when he plays, he controls the midfield and contributes to goals, so I wouldn't put it past him to bury another one at the weekend.

But rarely is there a game where Mohamed Salah doesn't score, especially at Anfield.

Liverpool 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Andrew Headspeath: After the threat of a micro-wobble, following those events at Tottenham, Liverpool are looking good again post international break and have a (very) favourable looking run up until the trip to Manchester City at the end of November.

Forest have drawn four of their last five, but a point at Anfield would be seen as a win for Steve Cooper's side, who will probably be missing Liverpool's returning tormentor last season and main goal threat, Taiwo Awoniyi (as well as Divock Origi).

Klopp has plenty of 'positive headaches' over his attacking and midfield selections once again, while Alisson has got to be targeting his first back-to-back clean sheets in the league since May.
