Liverpool vs Man City: Fans demand first start for FORGOTTEN star

Liverpool got some awful news ahead of their clash with Manchester City. Now Arne Slot faces a giant decision - and the fans are demanding one choice.

Liverpool didn't really get to celebrate their win over Real Madrid for long. After all, they suffered not one but two injuries coming out of the fixture.

Conor Bradley was taken off early with a hamstring issue, while Ibrahima Konate is set to miss the rest of the year with a knee problem.

The latter is a massive one for Liverpool. Konate has been one of the stars this season, nailing down a centre-back spot and performing as one of the league's best defenders.

Some could even argue he's been the best.

But Liverpool will need to cope against Manchester City without Konate. That means bringing in one of the other centre-back options - and fans are in very little doubt over who that should be.

Liverpool fans want Joe Gomez

It certainly is a question for Arne Slot. Jarell Quansah was his starting centre-back to kick this season off, though he lasted only 45 minutes before Konate had his place.

Regardless, he was the pick alongside Virgil van Dijk. But how far has he fallen? Either way, Slot will make a big statement on Quansah with his decision against City.

But fans don't appear to view this as a major decision. They're backing Gomez in their droves.

Thousands voted in our fan poll and just shy of 85 per cent of you voted for Gomez to get the nod. He's the one Liverpool fans have the most faith in, clearly.

But it would mean bringing in someone who's become a little bit of a forgotten entity at Liverpool. Gomez hasn't started at all in the Premier League or UEFA Champions League under Slot. His appearances have typically come at right-back, too.

Liverpool even tried to sell Gomez in the summer, agreeing a deal with Newcastle United in order to sign Anthony Gordon. Now they're relying on him to save their incredible season.
