To explain, the Premier League released a statement in their match centre which confirmed that officials in Stockley Park were happy to proceed with the decision that was made on the pitch by referee, Tony Harrington.

"The referee issued a yellow card to Diop for a challenge on Robertson. VAR checked for a potential red card and confirmed the referee’s call of reckless challenge and yellow card," the statement read.

Considering how high Diop's foot was and how serious an injury he could have caused this is a surprising statement.

However, Liverpool must accept the decision.
