Liverpool vs Brentford - Predictions

After a difficult week for Liverpool, the Reds are hoping to get back to winning ways when they host Brentford in the Premier League this Sunday.

Disappointing performances and results against Luton Town and Toulouse have left a sour taste in the mouth of Liverpool supporters, with Brentford the final opportunity for the Reds to redeem themselves before the November international break.

Thomas Frank's side have won their last three games on the bounce after a shaky start to the campaign, beating Burnley, Chelsea and West Ham United.

The Bees have kept two clean sheets in those three matches, including away at Stamford Bridge, netting eight goals in some impressive performances.

Jurgen Klopp's shaky backline will give Sunday's visitors confidence when they arrive at Anfield, but Liverpool have won every single game on home soil this season.

It promises to be an intriguing affair on Merseyside, with the Reds in desperate need of a positive reaction.

Here is how some of Anfield Watch's writers think things will go down.

Ewan Ross-Murray: After a difficult week, I'm banking on Anfield being a fortress this weekend.

Brentford are in positive spirits and will fancy their chances of piling the misery on Liverpool. Both sides have plenty of injuries and absentees, making it difficult to anticipate exactly how both Klopp and Frank will line up.

If Brentford go with a flat back five and play a low block, I can anticipate Liverpool having issues breaking them down. If the Reds can't find an early goal, or even worse fall behind, Anfield may become increasingly nervous on Sunday afternoon.

Hopefully, Liverpool's individual quality will take them over the line - even if it's unconvincing.

Alex Caple: Desperately need an early goal here. It's been easy to see the frustration just build over the last two games as things started slowly. Telling that Klopp essentially called out the lack of intensity after the Toulouse defeat.

Once things like that are recognised, Liverpool are generally pretty good at reacting - I think we'll see that here. Brentford's form is a little bit scary but it's at Anfield and Salah's due a goal by now.

Wouldn't expect a 3-0 or anything but Liverpool should find a way to bounce back here.

Andrew Headspeath: One week ago, I'd have confidently wagered most of my (admittedly limited) life savings on a comfortable home win against Brentford, but two pretty dismal performances and key midfield absences in the run up to this one have changed my outlook a bit.

Brentford are in great form (three wins on the bounce, including impressive victories over Chelsea and West Ham) and are just the sort of team that could frustrate the Reds if things don't go to plan early.

Who Klopp selects in midfield, out of his fit and available options, and how they fit together could dictate the outcome of this one. A lacklustre start could lead to an unwanted repeat of last season's most trying afternoons.

I very much hope I'm wrong.

Will CastleWatching Liverpool's last two games has been an absolute struggle from a fan perspective.

After two really lacklustre performances against Luton and Toulouse, you've got to hope that the boys will pick things back up as we return to Anfield.

Brentford will provide a tricky test, being in comparatively great form themselves - but if Liverpool can get an early goal and control the tempo, then there's hope we can get back to winning ways.

Could easily go the other way, though, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Bees are the ones to strike first.

I'm keeping the faith of a win on home soil. Just about.
