Four things missed in Liverpool vs Bayer Leverkusen including TOUCHING Alonso moment
Arne Slot once again trialled an interesting new formation for Liverpool against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night.
On the evening Xabi Alonso returned to Anfield, Liverpool were very much looking to continue their good momentum this season.
Slot made an interesting team selection ahead of the night with Luis Diaz coming in to play as a no.9 - almost as a false nine - similar to Dominik Szoboszlai's role against Brighton.
But the new look Liverpool attack didn't reap many rewards, particularly in the first-half with Leverkusen proving to be the tough opponents many expected.
In the end, there was a complete turnaround in the second-half as Liverpool took the lead and went on a quick rampage with Luis Diaz taking charge to lead Liverpool to an utter thrashing.
Here are four things Anfield Watch spotted from the game that you might have missed.

Classy Leverkusen fans
You'll Never Walk Alone is Liverpool's song, but it's also a football anthem sung at many football grounds with a universal message.
Many visiting fans often try to undermine Liverpool supporters by booing the anthem or trying to make as much noise as possible as YNWA blares out around the stadium.
But Leverkusen fans were classy and ended up joining in with the signing crowd to sing the anthem before the game.
It's nice to see that it's not just Xabi Alonso that the two sides have in common. It's important to mention, Alonso is not the only Liverpool icon who has managed Leverkusen.
Sami Hyypia also had a stint as the club's manager.
Alonso touching the famous Anfield sign
The This is Anfield sign in the tunnel at Anfield is the subject of a lot of superstition. There was a time Liverpool players were banned from touching it by Jurgen Klopp until they had won a trophy.
Away players either stand to stay away from it while others dare the mythical deities of football and touch the hallowed sign.
It was interesting to see Alonso deciding to touch the sign as a visiting manager.
Of course, he will have touched it plenty of times as a player so perhaps he just couldn't resist for old times sake.
Benitez spotted in the crowd
Speaking of Alonso, as he returned to his old hunting ground at Anfield so did his former boss.
Rafa Benitez was in attendance to watch his former protégé now taking on the mantle as a manager in the ground where their stories began in England.
The former Liverpool boss will have had mixed emotions. Undoubtedly, he will have wanted Alonso to do well but he is also someone who has the club very close to his heart.
It would have been interesting to know which side he was cheering on. Or whether he celebrated when Luis Diaz audaciously dinked it over the Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper.
Liverpool record continues twice in a row
It was almost like de ja vu for Liverpool fans in this one. A slow first half was proceeded by an emphatic second half.
Against Brighton in the Premier League over the weekend, Liverpool scored two goals in three minutes netting in the 69th and 72nd minute.
This time around, there was even less time between Diaz's and Gakpo's goal as the Reds quickly took ascendancy in the game and capitalised on Leverkusen to take their momentum and make those pivotal moments count.
It was great to see and while not everything was perfect, this record over the last two games is just indicative of Slot's football and the intensity that it brings at certain times during the match.
