Liverpool urged to sign £150m rated midfielder to replace Jordan Henderson

Liverpool have been told to sign West Ham United's Declan Rice as a possible replacement for Jordan Henderson.

The one standout issue for Liverpool is their midfield. The Reds are sorted at central defensive midfield with Fabinho and at left central midfield with Thiago Alcantara, but there is a big gap on the right-hand side.

Henderson is ageing (32) and Harvey Elliott is still too young (19) to rely on. Liverpool have been linked with the likes of Jude Bellingham and Nicolo Barella as potential options this summer, but nothing has come to fruition so far.

However, John Wenham of Football Insider believes that West Ham's Rice would be a perfect option for Jurgen Klopp's ageing midfield.

“For me, Liverpool’s biggest problem is actually the midfield,” he said.

“I just don’t think it’s that good. I don’t rate Naby Keita at all. (Alex) Oxlade-Chamberlain has been a disaster as well.

“Yes, they have Fabinho and Henderson but they are ageing players. I think they really need to add a top-class central midfielder.

“They could have done with Frenkie de Jong if I am being honest. They do have a lot of options but a lot of Liverpool fans will tell you they are a midfielder short.

“Someone like Declan Rice, for example. They need to replace the ageing Henderson and he could be in that Liverpool side for the next decade.

“At some point, they will need to spend big on that midfield.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

As much as I rate Rice, there is not a chance that Liverpool would ever sign him.

West Ham reportedly want £150 million for the England international and that is something Liverpool will never pay.

Rice's contract with the Hammers runs out at the end of the 2023-24 season, so that price tag seems very steep for someone who is almost out of contract.

As I said, he would be a great Henderson replacement, but not for the money West Ham are currently quoting.
