Liverpool's training session for their UEFA Champions League trip to RB Leipzig provided a few clues to who will be in Arne Slot's matchday squad.

Although the absence of prolific goalscorer Diogo Jota and summer signing Federico Chiesa will have worried fans who were watching the club's official live stream on YouTube, there were plenty of positives to be picked up.

For example, Alexis Mac Allister was fully involved, despite his recent fitness issues, and the Argentinian could return to the starting line-up in east Germany after making only a cameo appearance as a substitute in Sunday's gritty 2-1 win over Chelsea.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk also looked sharp as he trained in front of the cameras for the first time since confirming negotiations over his new contract are now in progress.

But it's a player at the other end of his career who supporters will have been buzzing to see on the pitch at the AXA Training Centre.

Nyoni earns first-team call up

Liverpool's exciting teenager Trey Nyoni was promoted back into Slot's first-team squad and was seen training ahead of the Reds' fixture against RB Leipzig.

He had missed out on the club's Premier League fixture last weekend against Chelsea, but seems to be a regular presence in the Champions League squad with Slot giving invaluable experience to some of the club's academy products.

Tyler Morton was on the bench for both the opening 3-1 victory away to AC Milan in September and the controlled 2-0 win over Bologna earlier this month.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder was joined there for the Bologna game by Nyoni whose October became even more memorable when he signed his first professional contract with the club last week.

To see Nyoni training with the first-team squad again today raises speculation that the attacking midfielder could be given his debut against RB Leipzig, with five senior players either ruled out or rated very doubtful for the clash.

The 17-year-old is very highly regarded in English football. Last season, as per Liverpool Echo's Theo Squires, Jurgen Klopp described Nyoni as 'special.'
