With his contract expiring at the end of the season and still now extension on the horizon, it seems with every passing day he is getting closer and closer to a move away from Anfield.

This understandably means he is facing a lot of scrutiny from a large section of the Liverpool fanbase and the media as well.

And with his latest outing against Old Trafford, things are not going to get any easier for him any time soon.

Tranmere Rovers issue Trent Alexander-Arnold statement

Alexander-Arnold responded to critics with his goal celebration against West Ham United in Liverpool's final game of 2024. But he could not make a similar impact in the Reds' first game of 2025.

Instead, Alexander-Arnold was the scapegoat for Liverpool's setback against Manchester United with Arne Slot's side falling to a 2-2 draw at Anfield.

The full-back did not have a great game. He failed to win a single duel as per Fotmob, losing all five of his attempts.

Meanwhile, on Sky Sports' broadcast, he was lambasted by Roy Keane for his defending with the Irishman claiming the full-back will end up at Tranmere Rovers rather than Real Madrid.

This has led to Tranmere Rovers making a facetious statement on their own social networks, claiming they have no intentions to bring Trent Alexander-Arnold to the club.

This is a hilarious tweet from the League Two side, who are currently sitting in 20th place in England's fourth tier.

It's one way to lighten the mood around what is a very serious topic at Anfield over the future of Alexander-Arnold.

One thing is certain. This purgatory cannot go on any longer. The sooner Alexander-Arnold makes a decision one way or another, the better for the club.

Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold both need clarity. Whether that's moving on or continuing a more than decade long affair remains to be seen.
