A new report has suggested that Real Madrid will be forced into making a £60m bid thanks to their ongoing pursuit of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Thoroughly linked with the Spanish giants for the past 12 months, the ongoing contract situation around Alexander-Arnold has meant that all eyes have been on Liverpool’s star right-back and his potential free departure to Madrid.

However, a new report has suggested that in light of more positive news regarding Liverpool’s ability to negotiate an extension to Trent’s deal, Real Madrid are now starting to explore other options.

Real Madrid's Alexander-Arnold Alternatives

Specifically, Tottenham Hotspur’s Pedro Porro has emerged as a target for the Spanish champions, with Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong also named as a choice that Real Madrid could have in the full-back position should Alexander-Arnold remain at Anfield.

Porro, 25, has only been in North London for 18 months since Spurs paid Sporting Lisbon £39m in January 2023. Slowly establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s best full-backs, Porro has not dismissed speculation with a return to his home country, and this has ramped up after his Tottenham back-up Died Spence signed a contract extension with the club this week.

It is estimated that Porro would be valued at around the £60m mark, with Daniel Levy and Spurs notoriously difficult to negotiate with, and any potential exit of Porro would only come at a price Tottenham would deem a big enough profit on their initial purchase.

Frimpong, also named in this story, is not as realistic an option given he is more of an attacking wing-back than a player capable of a more traditional right-back role.

Whilst the identification of Porro and Frimpong as alternatives to Trent is sure to fill Reds around the world with confidence, it is worth remembering that Alexander-Arnold remains the No.1 target for Real Madrid in the position and they do have a strong track record on signing superstar players on free transfers.
