Trent Alexander-Arnold is less than three months away from being able to discuss a potential free transfer away from Liverpool.

Fears continue to mount over the future of the 26-year-old with likely suitors Real Madrid stepping up their pursuit for the defender.

The European champions are touted to sign Alexander-Arnold if he opts to depart Anfield this summer.

Madrid’s pursuit of the Liverpool vice-captain could be catalysed by the ACL injury to Dani Carvajal, with the club now needing an imminent replacement, as well as a long-term successor, and Carvajal turning 33 in January.

According to Cadena SER, Real Madrid are yet to contact Alexander-Arnold directly, but they have indirectly spoken to his brother, also Trent's agent.

Before making any potential deal with Liverpool regarding a possible renewal, he will reportedly inform the Spanish club of proceedings.

The report adds that Alexander-Arnold is Real Madrid's first-choice to strengthen the right side with it being understood that Los Blancos are closely following the future of the England international with the idea of incorporating him into their illustrious squad for the start of next season.

If Alexander-Arnold is to leave Liverpool this summer, there’s no doubt he’ll have no shortage of suitors but it’s the Spanish giants who are determined to secure the England international’s signature.

The fears of a potential departure have escalated through Alexander-Arnold’s persistence to remain tight-lipped over contract progress whilst Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk - who also find themselves in the final years of their Liverpool contracts - both addressed the media earlier in the campaign.

It was the full-back’s turn to speak out on the situation last month as he reiterated his wish to become Liverpool captain one day.

“Look, I have been at the club 20 years now. I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public. This one won’t be either.

“I have always said I want to captain the club – that is an aim and a goal of mine, whether that happens is out of my hands.

“I want to be a Liverpool player this season (as a minimum) is what I will say.

'The most important thing is always trophies if I am honest. This season we are looking really good,” the defender said.
