Trent Alexander-Arnold to take MASSIVE pay cut leave Liverpool
Liverpool are likely to be without Trent Alexander-Arnold next season.
The club allowed him to enter into the last year of his contract without a new deal having been signed, making it incredibly likely that he could leave for free in the summer.

Of course, we all assumed that he would be eager to tie himself down at Liverpool for the long-term to continue his ambition of becoming captain one day and finishing his career as a one-club man.

However, we were wrong, as the latest reports have clarified that Madrid are likely to secure his services when his contract comes to an end, bringing a lifelong partnership between Liverpool and the player to an end.
But we all assumed that any deal to leave the Reds would be involve a hefty new wage from the Galacticos, and in fact the latest reports coming out of Spain are suggesting a very different reality.
Trent will be on less money at Madrid than at Liverpool
According to MARCA, Trent will be taking a pay cut to join Los Blancos in the summer.
The X account LFC Transfer Room posted yesterday writing, "Even though there's still no official numbers over Trent Alexander-Arnold's wages at Real Madrid because the contract is still not 'officially signed' the numbers discussed at the moment are of €8m (£6.69m) per season (around £140,000 a week), @Marca."
That would be a pay cut of around £40,000 a week as per Capology, which is nothing short of extraordinary.
We all recognise, as heartbreaking as it is, that Trent might want to explore the world and the move to Madrid could be a way to just experience new things in his career and branch out.
Players only get one chance at a football career, and so the opportunity to play football in a different country might just have been an offer he felt was too good to refuse.
But taking a pay cut to make it happen is insane if the figures are accurate.
Of course, Madrid will give him a significant sign-on bonus, which is a fraction of what they would have paid Liverpool had a transfer fee been required for the deal, so the player will recieve that personally, and that will be separate to his salary.
So there is still a financial incentive to move, it's just a little more hidden than you would expect.

Nonetheless, any Liverpool contract extension wouldn't have been for any less than what the player was already earning, so there is little more club could have done to change his mind.
