Liverpool have opened talks with the representatives of Trent Alexander-Arnold over a contract extension, according to reports.

Alexander-Arnold, 25, is out of contract in 2025 and has just entered the last 18 months of his current deal, meaning the Reds must move sooner rather than later to reach an agreement.

The right-back-cum-midfielder signed his last contract in July 2021 and will see his pay skyrocket should he agree new terms with the club.

He is one of three key players out of contract in 2025, alongside Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, but is significantly younger than that duo and his renewal has long been seen as a priority around Anfield.

The imminent departure of Jurgen Klopp as Reds manager, announced to widespread shock on Friday, will not get in the way of the club’s desire to tie down Alexander-Arnold, says a report in HITC

Newly-appointed as a vice-captain ahead of the 2023-24 season, the youth academy product has enjoyed a stellar campaign thus far as the club compete on four fronts.

Klopp’s side are top of the Premier League, into the Carabao Cup final and fighting it out in the latter stages of the Europa League and the FA Cup as well.

Alexander-Arnold has recently been battling a knee injury picked up in the FA Cup third-round victory over Arsenal earlier this month.

He has been long established as one of Liverpool’s key players, being a pivotal figure in the 2019 Champions League triumph as well as the 2019-20 Premier League title-winning campaign.

This season he has played 25 times, scoring twice and providing nine assists. He is closing in on 300 Liverpool appearances having made his debut back in 2016 and is a mainstay of the Klopp era.

The report claims that Alexander-Arnold will soon be among the club’s top earners should a new contract be agreed. His last deal was worth £180,000 per week, according to Capology, which is lower than Thiago Alcantara's (£200,000), Van Dijk's (£220,000) and Salah's bumper pay packet (£350,000).
