Trent Alexander-Arnold injury: Fears grow that we've seen homegrown superstar for LAST time
In the heat of battle against Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of Liverpool's Champions League last-16 tie at Anfield, Trent Alexander-Arnold was pictured lying against the advertising board.
Almost immediately fans thought he had clattered full force against the sidelines, but in fact he had missed a duel and hurt his ankle in going down as his foot appeared to bend in an awkward way.

Replays then showed that the Liverpool vice-captain had twisted his knee in going down and while he was quickly substituted by Arne Slot, it took the right-back a minute to be able to move off the side of the pitch, which has of course left fans fearing for the worst.
The Reds have the EFL Cup Final against Newcastle on Sunday, which is an immediate concern, but beyond that, Liverpool have only got nine Premier League matches still to play, making it likely that any significant lay-off could be pivotal for Trent.
We now know he won't play in the Champions League again this season following Liverpool's elimination on penalty kicks.
The last time we see Trent in Liverpool colours?
Of course, if Trent is out for the remainder of the season, then whether Liverpool fans are aware of the fact, we may never see him wearing the red shirt again.
Liverpool are currently in negotiations with him over his expiring contract, which will end on June 1, meaning he will leave the club and become a permanent free agent for other clubs to talk to if he fails to re-sign.
As one of the team's few Scouse homegrown players, it would mark an incredibly sad situation for the club, but for the fans, they would have to get used to not seeing the world-class right-back playing for them.
Real Madrid have been eyeing up a move for the player all season, and it seems fair to suggest that Trent's reluctance to sign a contract extension has been in direct correlation to the Spanish giants' interest in him.
As such, it is a very real possibility that this might have been Trent's last match for us, which is a sombre thought to say the least.

The extent of the injury will need to be explored when the relevant scans and assessments have been made, but the immediate diagnosis from the ever-reliable Physio Scout on X is that a whole host of periods out are likely.
If we are lucky, he will be absent for a maximum of a few weeks, but a more serious 'sprain' would lead to possible surgery and almost 10 weeks out - presumably the remainder of the season.
Liverpool are far from ready to give up the fight to extend Trent's contract to see him playing at Anfield for years to come, but as things stand, the situation is ominous.
