Liverpool are reeling from the loss of Trent Alexander-Arnold to a 'serious' injury blow with the right-back going off against Aston Villa in the Premier League at Anfield on Saturday night.

The 26-year-old went down just after the 20-minute mark during the game against Unai Emery's side, briefly clutching his hamstring, before making his way slowly to the sidelines.

Arne Slot shot Trent a concerned look as the defender walked straight down the tunnel.

Conor Bradley, a capable deputy, was summoned to replace the England international in the Liverpool backline.

It's currently unknown what the extent of the issue is but it was revealed a couple of weeks ago that Liverpool were managing Trent through an injury sustained on international duty with England.

"Always serious when a player goes off first half, he asked for it," Slot told the post-match press conference.

"Not a good sign, always difficult so close after the game to say what it is. Let's wait and see. Surprised if I see him with England. Let's wait and see."

Liverpool don't play for two weeks

Trent was again named in the squad for the Three Lions' upcoming Nations League games against Greece and Ireland by interim manager Lee Carsley but he will surely be unavailable for those fixtures.

Liverpool are not back in action until November 24 in a Premier League game against Southampton and then face a crunch double header against Real Madrid in the Champions League followed by a league game against Manchester City.

Arne Slot will be hopeful of having Alexander-Arnold available for those matches, along with other injured first-team stars like Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota, Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott.

Liverpool defeated Aston Villa 2-0 on Saturday night with Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah providing the goals.

The win means the Reds solidify their grasp on top spot in the Premier League table, moving five points clear of Manchester City at the summit.

Pep Guardiola's side had earlier lost, 2-1, at Brighton, giving Liverpool the chance to extend their lead.
