David Ornstein REVEALS Liverpool stance on Trent contract
Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold contract saga seems like it’ll be never-ending at this point.
Alexander-Arnold is proving a difficult scenario for Liverpool’s higher-ups not least of all because of the right-back's history as a local lad coming through the academy. His departure would be an unfortunately significant blow to the feeling of the club itself.

But trying to figure out this deal alongside that of Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk isn’t exactly easy, despite Anfield Watch's exclusive that Van Dijk will be staying at the club.
And Liverpool were almost put in an incredibly tricky situation after Conor Bradley was basically the best player on the pitch against Real Madrid on Wednesday night, shutting down Kylian Mbappe totally.
But Bradley’s injury means that Arne Slot’s hand is forced in putting Alexander-Arnold back into the team for the visit of Manchester City to Anfield on Sunday.
As opposed to the player himself explaining the ongoing situation as was seen with Salah this week, a new report in The Athletic by James Pearce and David Ornstein has now clarified where Trent is at.
“Liverpool are trying to renew Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract, but so far there is no agreement in place,” reads the report.
“There is strong interest from Spain — Real Madrid’s interest is well documented — and other countries. From January, he can agree a pre-contract with clubs abroad. Liverpool would like to keep hold of him, but this is an ongoing live situation that will need to be decided in 2025 or sooner. There’s no clear picture of the outcome right now.”
What does this mean for Alexander-Arnold and Liverpool?
The knowledge that the club are actively trying to renew Alexander-Arnold's contract is something Liverpool fans will cling onto until news emerges either way.
But it’s the frustrating reality of the Alexander-Arnold deal that, in being on the cusp of his prime, a move to a team like Real Madrid would always hold a bit of fascination in the right-back’s imagination.
Despite Liverpool being the best team in the world right now, and embarrassing Madrid only days ago, convincing Alexander-Arnold to stay will require a complete selling of the rest of his career to him.
Other reports emerged earlier in the week that Liverpool are prepared to give Alexander-Arnold a Salah-like salary to ensure his services are retained.
But it is yet to be seen whether this will seal the deal.
