Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation is enough to panic even the most cold-hearted Reds.

It’s all ramped up now that the January transfer window has opened, with Liverpool knocking back an insulting £10m offer from Real Madrid, Marca reporting that the player is almost certain to leave and Alexander-Arnold doing an ‘all talk’ celebration after scoring at West Ham.

At time of writing, absolutely nothing has been agreed or announced on any front. It is well established that Real Madrid are wanting Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer if they can get him this summer and that Liverpool are at least trying to retain his services.

And it’s in this chaos where advantage can be taken.

And that’s exactly what Bayern Munich are aiming to do.

Bayern Munich want Trent Alexander-Arnold

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Bayern have taken a “firm step” and “seek to advance in negotiations” for the right-back’s signature.

Bayern have found themselves unnervingly short in the right-back position so far this season. Only Josip Stanisic and Sacha Boey fill the need as a natural right-back and both find themselves on the injury list, meaning the German giants have been deploying midfielder Konrad Laimer in the defensive role throughout the season.

As such, pursuing a dynamic established player in the position makes complete logical sense - particularly if one is available for free.

Bayern find themselves in a similar position to Liverpool, with a still-dominant side that is certain to look quite different sooner rather than later.

Joshua Kimmich, Alphonso Davies, Manuel Neuer and Thomas Muller all find themselves out of contract at the end of this season. And whilst the club are attempting to negotiate, both Kimmich and Davies find themselves with multiple suitors elsewhere - Liverpool being one of them.

As such, funds may become available they they can reallocate into a massive contract for Alexander-Arnold should they make a serious run at him.

And whilst Real Madrid won’t be short on doing the same thing, it throws a serious spanner into the works for a player who is clearly conflicted about where his future lies.
