Trent Alexander-Arnold has outlined Arne Slot's ruthless streak days after expressing his annoyance of being subbed off against Brentford.

Liverpool's vice-captain has touched on Slot's ruthlessness when it comes to buying into the Dutchman's style.

Alexander-Arnold says one of the reasons Liverpool have been so hungry to defend and be a hard team to beat is down to Slot's fearlessness to drop anyone if they aren't willing to comply with the rules, with one being a willingness to defend.

"That's one of the rules that the manager brought in. If you don't comply to those rules, you won't play – it's as simple as that. It's not just about defenders defending [and] the attackers just watch us defend. It's a whole team thing.

"I think the counter-attacks that we've potentially been exposed to, we're able to slow them down and get numbers behind, we're blocking shots and we're stopping them from creating anything dangerous.

"That's down to the work ethic and it's what's demanded," Alexander-Arnold said to Liverpool FC.

This comes days after Alexander-Arnold portrayed a significant amount of displeasure for being replaced by Conor Bradley in the second-half against Brentford on Sunday.

The defender was seen in an awkward exchange with Slot moments after the substitution where the Dutchman was spotted seemingly explaining the reasoning behind substituting the 25 year-old.

The defender's annoyance extended to after the game despite clear efforts from Diogo Jota trying to lift Alexander-Arnold's spirits.

It was the only blemish of what was a magnificent afternoon for Arne Slot's side but a it's key indication that although the transition from Jurgen Klopp to Slot has been smooth, keeping every player in the squad happy is going to be a tall task for the Dutchman, especially with Alexander-Arnold who is in the final year of his contract.

A CONFIDENT LIVERPOOL AWAIT MANCHESTER UNITED

Arne Slot's side are two wins from two so far in the Premier League but their first major test comes against fierce rivals Manchester United this Sunday.

Back to back 2-0 wins over Ipswich Town and Brentford see Liverpool maintain a perfect start to the Premier League campaign alongside Manchester City, Arsenal and Brighton.

Alexander-Arnold believes Liverpool head into the weekend full of confidence after a real strong start to life under Slot.

"I think we're full of confidence. Obviously big changes happened for us in the summer and then a few of us were late back in. But we're getting to grips with the new style, the new way the manager wants us to play and transitioning into a new Liverpool really.

"I think it's going well so far. There's a lot we can still improve on, and I'm sure the manager thinks the same and us players equally so. For us, it's about carrying momentum.

"We have self-belief, we're confident in ourselves and the way that we play. Two really good games and two wins, so we need to keep that going," the defender said.
