'He can do everything!' - Inside Tyler Morton's SENSATIONAL Championship loan spell

Liverpool starlet Tyler Morton continues to turn heads during a productive loan spell at Championship side Hull City, under highly-rated young manager Liam Rosenior. 

Morton, 21, has played in all but three league games since moving to the MKM Stadium on transfer deadline day last September, earning the EFL’s Young Player of the Month award in November and gaining under-21 international honours along the way. 

The midfielder was involved in the recent England under-21 matches, where he provided two assists in the 5-1 destruction of Azerbaijan, including one for Liverpool team-mate and good friend Harvey Elliott. 

Morton has been fielded by Rosenior in a combination of roles this season, not only as a holding midfield player but also further up the pitch as a box-to-box player, where he has showcased his tremendous ball control and creativity. 

The Wallasey-born midfielder has provided five assists and scored three goals across the season to date, including an incredible effort at the end of a league game against Norwich in January. 

His most recent assist came on Monday night in the second-tier game against Leeds at Elland Road. 

Bursting through the midfield, he laid on a brilliant pass to fellow Liverpool loanee Fabio Carvalho, who finished smartly at the near post.

That was Hull’s equaliser on the night but the Tigers ultimately lost 3-1, damaging their playoff hopes further. 

Rosenior’s side have wobbled at the worst possible time, winless in six Championship fixtures, and now lie six points outside the playoff places. 

Nonetheless Morton has been among their most consistent players all season long. 

“Some of his play, honestly,” manager Rosenior said back in November after a goal from Morton helped see off Rotherham, 4-1. “He can do everything as a midfield player.

“The beauty with Tyler is he can play deep and he can be just as effective there, but what we’ve seen in training is he can create and score goals."

Recently named by the CIES Observatory as one of the most “press-resistant” midfielders in the world, ahead of all of his Liverpool counterparts, Morton could have a big part to play when he returns to his parent club at the end of the season. 

In the post-Jurgen Klopp shakeup it could represent a golden opportunity to impress a new manager and force his way decisively into the first-team reckoning at Anfield. 

Morton, who has been at Liverpool since the age of seven, has already played nine times for the seniors, including two starts in the Champions League against Porto and AC Milan back in 2021. 

He was also a starter for a Premier League game that year against Tottenham and came off the bench in another top-flight fixture against Arsenal. 

He spent the 2022-23 season with Blackburn Rovers before embarking on his latest loan Championship loan spell in search of regular game time.

Academy advisor Steve McManaman, who also broke through the Liverpool youth-team ranks, has backed Morton to make the grade.

"If they were here, they'd be playing," he told the Mirror of Morton and Carvalho when "Klopp's Kids" took their place in the first team amid an injury crisis and helped secure the Carabao Cup.

Liverpool opted to give the midfielder a new, long-term contract last January and there are signs that under the right guidance he could go on to become a real asset for the Merseyside club. 

And while an extensive midfield overhaul took place last summer, with Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister coming in, the answer this summer could again lie in the academy.
