While Liverpool have had a quiet transfer window in terms of new signings, a hot topic of conversation has been the future of key first-team players.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have just one year left on their contracts and talks to secure them on new deals remain quiet.

All three have been key to Liverpool's success in recent years and fans have been left frustrated over the lack of urgency to keep these star players.

Ornstein: Liverpool need to secure Trent's future

Rumours surrounding Trent eyeing up a move to Real Madrid have been at the forefront of discussions during the off-season, amplified by sightings of the right-back with fellow countryman and Madrid star Jude Bellingham on holiday together.

The 25-year-old is thought to be a key target for the La Liga giants next summer where he could potentially move on a free transfer.

The Athletic journalist David Ornstein says Liverpool should move "heaven and earth" for the Scouser.

Speaking to Jamie Carragher and Paul Scholes on the Fan Debate, Ornstein said: "I think they should move heaven and earth for Trent.

"We saw the pre-assist to Mo Salah on to Diogo Jota, he has qualities like no other player in this country. He's a Liverpool boy and vice-captain now, it would be really sad if Liverpool didn't strike a deal with him."

Ornstein's colleague James Pearce has also analysed Trent's stance on signing a new deal saying that it is essential Liverpool get him a new deal and will need to push to boat out to keep him.

In January, Trent, who has been at the club since he was six-years-old, will be able to sign a pre-agreement for a new club; something which sporting director Richard Hughes should be keen to avoid.
