Liverpool use Stefan Bajcetic as bait to complete DREAM midfield transfer

Stefan Bajcetic could be used as bait by Liverpool to land their ideal midfield target.

The Reds are still going strong in the Premier League but Arne Slot's squad is by far from perfect.

There are plenty of weaknesses and potential areas to reinforce, most notably in the left-back and midfield department.

When it comes to the latter a key area of recruitment for Liverpool is the holding midfield position. Slot has discovered a gem in Ryan Gravenberch but the Dutchman would still probably like to add another holding midfielder to his squad after failing to land Martin Zubimendi in the summer.

And Liverpool could be a step closer to fulfilling that wish if Bajcetic's move to Real Betis goes through.

Liverpool are in talks about recalling Bajcetic from his loan at Red Bull Salzburg and sending him out to La Liga side Real Betis.

This is a move that makes sense for the Reds on paper. Bajcetic is out of favour at Salzburg and he will not be playing in Europe for much longer considering his side look all but eliminated from the Champions League.

At Betis, Bajcetic will play at a high level and earn valuable experience.

Not only that, but it could also help Liverpool land an ideal midfield target.

Anfield Watch revealed exclusively that Liverpool really admire Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso.

The 23-year-old is a USMNT star, and he has caught the eye of the Reds' scouts for his performances last season.

This season he has continued to attract the attention and with Bajcetic moving to Betis, Liverpool could be moving one step closer to landing Cardoso as a result.

Cardoso is still very young and he ticks a lot of boxes in terms of what Slot wants from his holding midfielder.

The Betis midfielder is very agile and capable of covering a lot of ground - he's also active in regaining possession for his team and a very adept defender.

But on top of that, he is also someone who involves himself in progressive actions and is capable of dictating the midfield with nice crisp passes that instigate attacks for his side.

Bajcetic moving to Betis would certainly make this deal more possible and on paper Cardoso seems like a really strong addition for the Reds.

The kind of addition Slot has wanted to make since he took the hot-seat at Anfield.

Now it's just up to Richard Hughes to get the job done.
