Liverpool transfers: The four players possibly following Ruben Amorim to Anfield

As many as four Sporting CP players could follow Ruben Amorim to Liverpool if he takes over as manager at Anfield. A summer of change is coming on Merseyside.

Jornal de Noticias reports that four players could join Ruben Amorim in swapping Lisbon for Liverpool this summer. Amorim is, of course, heavily linked with the Liverpool manager’s job.

And despite the Reds’ success this season, Amorim could make the decision to overhaul things somewhat. That would primarily be seen in defence, with both Goncalo Inacio and Ousmane Diomande reportedly on the list to join him at Anfield.

Both have been consistently linked with Liverpool anyway, with Inacio, in particular, a target since at least last summer. The pair make up two-thirds of Amorim’s first-choice back-three with Sporting alongside ex-Red Sebastian Coates.

But he wouldn’t swap there. Morten Hjulmand could be a midfield target for the Reds, having only moved to Sporting last summer. He’s clearly made a massive impression on Amorim.

Lastly, Marcus Edwards is supposedly an option. He’s an interesting one, given Edwards would count towards the homegrown quota at Liverpool. Talk of Luis Diaz potentially leaving may open the door to a move.

Liverpool look at Sporting stars

It makes complete sense for Amorim to want players he knows at the club. It’s going to be one of the strangest things happening this summer, in fact, as Jurgen Klopp’s longevity means we haven’t seen overhaul like this for a long time.

But at centre-back, in particular, signing players is almost a necessity. Sporting, after all, play with three centre-backs and Amorim will likely want to replicate that with Liverpool if he takes over.

The Reds lack options there, though, as well as players experienced in the system. Given they’ve been linked with Inacio and Diomande anyway, it would actually be a surprise if Liverpool didn’t move for them.

Of course, this all depends on Amorim actually taking over at Anfield. While it certainly seems like he’s the next Liverpool manager, there is a long way to go. So don’t get Edwards on the back of your shirt just yet.
