Liverpool transfers: Reds get answer in €120m bid for Real Madrid's Rodrygo
A sensational Spanish media report claims that Liverpool have FAILED in a €120 million bid to sign Real Madrid’s Rodrygo.
The 23-year-old could end up finding himself edged out of the Madrid lineup next season with Kylian Mbappe’s high profile from Paris Saint-Germain now imminent and Brazilian wonderkid Endrick arriving from Palmeiras.
Rodrygo has been playing in tandem with compatriot Vinicius Junior up front for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this season, a tactic that has borne fruit with Madrid in the Champions League final yet again and reclaiming the LaLiga title.
It’s now been claimed that the Reds attempted an ambitious move to sign the Brazil international but decision makers at Santiago Bernabeu rebuffed those efforts in a show of faith to Rodrygo.
"The bidding club is Liverpool and the player is a player very similar to their style. We are talking about a Real Madrid winger and it is Rodrygo,” journalist Eduardo Inda said on El Chiringuito de Jugones. “Real Madrid's refusal is emphatic because the board likes him a lot.”
There is no doubt that Liverpool have their eye on attacking reinforcements this summer with the likes of Mohamed Amoura, Yuito Suzuki, Omar Marmoush and Mohammed Kudus all linked.
Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah, meanwhile, have all been mentioned as potential departures.
Rodrygo doesn’t really fit the profile of any of those forwards linked with the exit door, despite the journalist’s claims, as he is a direct, right-footed right winger.
He’s just enjoyed his best season ever in front of goal in LaLiga and has grown into one of Los Blancos’ main players this term.
Madrid are also very well protected from a contract standpoint, with the former Santos star’s terms not expiring until 2028. There are also reports of a mammoth €1bn release clause.
To that end it would be a surprise to see Liverpool splurge over £100m on a single forward this summer, albeit one who comes with trophy-winning pedigree.
