Anfield Watch also exclusively revealed Liverpool want Victor Osimhen as the ideal forward to replace Nunez and have started to explore options to bring the Nigerian to Anfield.

But just why have Liverpool targeted Osimhen, and just why is he viewed as a better option that Nunez?

Why Liverpool want Victor Osimhen to replace Darwin Nunez

On paper, Osimhen and Nunez have similar profiles. Both are tall, lanky forwards with a great burst of speed and plenty of energy.

However, there are some distinct differences between the two that would make Osimhen a better fit for Liverpool.

One of the key differences between the two of them if we look at Osimhen's Football Critic profile is the Nigerian's ability to get inside the box.

In the Serie A last season, Osimhen averaged almost more than two touches in the opposition's penalty area per 90 (7.5) compared to Nunez who averages just 5.7 this season for Liverpool.

Being in the box is a key component of what Slot wants from his no.9. Slot likes to create a lot of chances for his forwards in the opposition's penalty area. That is why Santiago Gimenez thrived under him.

Aside from Osimhen's ability to find himself in good position's inside the box, the Nigerian is also a much more efficient finisher.

Even aside from his goal-scoring tally, his underlying numbers are really encouraging.

Over the last two seasons, Osimhen has averaged 1.9 shots on target per 90 - more than double Nunez's tally.

That proficiency in front of goal and inside the box is why Liverpool prefer Osimhen over Nunez.

Aside from that, the Nigerian still very much offers the frenetic energy that the Uruguayan gives to Liverpool's attack, but Osimhen is far more composed and controlled when it comes to putting chances away.
