Liverpool transfers: Reds and Man City to offer unhappy Rodrygo Real Madrid exit

Real Madrid have reportedly offered Liverpool a two-time Champions League winner as the Spanish side seek to offload a forward.

According to reports in the Spanish outlet Fichajes, Madrid are looking to sell Brazilian forward Rodrygo, with Carlo Ancelotti wanting to create space in his front line to accommodate superstar signing Kylian Mbappe.

When the news became apparent that Mbappe would be headed to the Spanish and European champions, the most obvious departure was thought to be Rodrygo, and it looks like this has come to pass as the 23 year-old is supposedly unwilling to accept a role from the bench at the Bernabeu.

Therefore, Madrid have sounded out potential buyers for Rodrygo, and it is thought that despite Liverpool having turned their attention to other positions in recent days the Reds could still be tempted into signing another forward.

Arne Slot supposedly is still looking to strengthen his attack and is an admirer of Rodrygo’s ability, and would see his potential signing as a real indicator of quality and depth.

However, if Rodrygo is to end up at Anfield, Liverpool will have to face stiff competition from one of their fiercest Premier League rivals.

With the imminent sale of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid, Manchester City have an attacking spot in their squad to fill, and Madrid have offered Rodrygo in their direction too. Similarly to Slot, Guardiola is thought to be a fan of the player, and Rodrygo does have experience of scoring at the Etihad during last season’s Champions League quarter-final.

Where would he fit in Liverpool's attack?

Capable of playing anywhere across the forward line or as more of a no.10, Rodrygo is a fast and versatile forward, confident in dribbling and coming off the back of a season in which he notched 17 goals.

If his potential signing comes down to pure economics, there is little doubt that City would be in pole position. However, if it assurances over playing time that Rodrygo is after, he would be more likely to find that under Slot at Liverpool.
